Preliminary Program Grid for Joan Wendland

This is the Preliminary program schedule. Joan Wendland may or may not actually be on these items, but probably will. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, modifications to the program can occur throughout the convention.

Friday 4:30 pm: Author Table Lowen / Wendland (Ends at: 4:55 pm) Author's hallway table
Authors:Alan Loewen, Joan Wendland
Friday 7:00 pm: Son of Steampunk (Ends at: 7:55 pm) Bethesda
Panelists:Elektra Hammond (M), Elaine Stiles, Joan Wendland
Steampunk genre caught on in ways nobody expected, spawning offspring genres (Dieselpunk, Atompunk, Clockpunk, etc.) achieve the same popularity? The panel will discuss these new subgenres, what defines them, and their staying power.
Friday 10:00 pm: Engineers and Non-Engineers Writing SF (Ends at: 10:55 pm) Rockville/ Potomac
Panelists:Jack Campbell - John G. Hemry, Meriah Lysistrata Crawford (M), Mike McPhail, Joan Wendland, Martin Wilsey
Some scientists and engineers shy away from writing SF because they fear they can't write well. Some liberal arts majors don't attempt SF because they don't think they know enough science. Panelists will give both types some advice to overcome their qualms.
Saturday 10:00 am: Tap That Muse: Where Ideas Come From (Ends at: 10:55 am) Salon A
Panelists:Jeanne Adams, Sarah Beth Durst, Barbara Krasnoff (M), J. J. Smith, Joan Wendland
Non-writers often ask authors about this, as if writers have access to some secret, and limited, stash which they are unwilling to share. The panel will divulge their methods for coming up with story ideas.
Saturday 1:00 pm: Literary Inspirations (Ends at: 1:55 pm) Bethesda
Panelists:Scott Edelman, J. J. Smith, Lee Strong (M), Joan Wendland
What author's works have influenced, inspired and even just amused the panelists.
Sunday 12:00 pm: It's a Conspiracy! (Ends at: 12:55 pm) Frederick
Panelists:T. Eric Bakutis, Carolyn Ives Gilman, Michael A. Ventrella, Joan Wendland (M)
Why are we so willing to believe that everyone is out to get us? How does this appeal to us in books and movies, even if we don't believe them?
