Preliminary Program Grid for Deidre Dykes

This is the Preliminary program schedule. Deidre Dykes may or may not actually be on these items, but probably will. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, modifications to the program can occur throughout the convention.

Coordinator:Dustin Blottenberger, Deidre Dykes (M), Brigitte Winter
Micro Fiction, a subset of flash fiction, are stories of 300 words or less. Learn how these word count restrictions force writers to boil stories down to their most powerful core elements. You will create micro fiction pieces through a series of exercises, learn about exciting markets for tiny stories and discuss how micro fiction can be a useful tool for deepening your writing skills. Limited to 15 people.
Saturday 2:00 pm: The Care and Feeding of Critique Groups (Ends at: 2:55 pm) Bethesda
Panelists:Jeanne Adams, Deidre Dykes, Carolyn Ives Gilman, Larry Hodges, Gayle Surrette (M)
Description of Program Participating in a critique group can be a great way to improve your writing. Not all such groups work out well, though. The panel will discuss ways to keep a critique group helpful, vibrant, and long-lived.
Sunday 11:00 am: Feeding Off Fairy Tales (Ends at: 11:55 am) Rockville/ Potomac
Panelists:Deidre Dykes, L. Jagi Lamplighter (M), Bernie Mojzes, A.C. Wise
Many authors use fairy tales as an inspiration or even the basis of a new novel. The panelists will discuss why we keep going back to these stories, which ones are the most popular and which ones are ripe for use.
