Preliminary Program Grid for Sarah Pinsker

This is the Preliminary program schedule. Sarah Pinsker may or may not actually be on these items, but probably will. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, modifications to the program can occur throughout the convention.

Saturday 1:30 pm: Sarah Pinsker Reading (Ends at: 1:55 pm) Bethesda
Author:Sarah Pinsker
Saturday 6:00 pm: Octavia Butler (Ends at: 6:55 pm) Seneca
Panelists:Victoria Janssen (M), B. Sharise Moore, L. H. Moore, Sarah Pinsker, K. Ceres Wright
Twelfth Planet Press has just published Luminescent Threads. While a more prolific novelist than short story writer, her short fiction, such as "Bloodchild" continues to be discussed to this day. Panelists will discuss the late Octavia Butler's ongoing influence on the field.
Sunday 11:00 am: LGBTQ Speculative Fiction (Ends at: 11:55 am) Frederick
Panelists:Craig L. Gidney, Vanessa Phin (M), Sarah Pinsker
Panelists will discuss where to find the best LGBT fiction being written today and what they think are the dos and don'ts of writing LGBT characters.
Sunday 1:00 pm: Positive Science Fiction (Ends at: 1:55 pm) Bethesda
Panelists:Malka Older, Sarah Pinsker, Nalin A. Ratnayake, Bud Sparhawk (M)
Much SF these days is dystopian or grim. Why isn't there more positive SF? Jetse DeVries's anthology Shine demonstrated that it's possible to write positive SF even when dealing with issues such as climate change.
Sunday 3:00 pm: Endings - Bang or Whimper? (Ends at: 3:55 pm) Rockville/ Potomac
Panelists:Neil Clarke, Joshua Palmatier, Irette Y. Patterson, Sarah Pinsker (M)
So many short stories start out well but end abruptly or just trail off, leaving the reader to wonder, what's the point. Why does this happen and how can writers avoid this fate? How do you determine your endings? Is a twist ending a cheat?
