Capclave Guide to Restaurants within 20 Minutes by Foot

by Paul Parsons and Aly Parsons

Silver Spring has restaurants for almost every palate and pocketbook. You need not starve. A more extensive restaurant guide will be available at the con. To whet your appetite, we, the Parsons, provide a sampling of the culinary delights of downtown Silver Spring. Here are a few of our personal favorites.

Addis Ababa -- Inexpensive Ethiopian food: spicy, spicier, spiciest. Communal dining. Eating with your fingers is proper etiquette. Sit in the open air upstairs if weather permits.

  F, Sa, Su: 11:30 am-12:00 am

Bombay Gaylord -- Good variety of Indian food. Cheap lunchtime buffet. Usually quiet atmosphere. For those who don't like their food too spicy hot, more choice than usual.

The Brass Hen. Ground floor of City Place. Steam table fried chicken and fish. Cheap, greasy, and good. Paul recommends the greens, too.
City Place is an enclosed mall, open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 6:00 on Sundays, just up the street from the Capclave hotel.

Cubano's -- One of the best restaurants in Silver Spring, and one of the most attractive. Caribbean food, mostly Cuban. Not a good place for large groups. Moderately expensive. Paul recommends everything.

On Saturdays and Sundays, expect to wait in line. If you're there when the dim sum carts aren't going around, you can ask for the dim sum menu. Also has other Chinese food, but go for the dim sum.
