Connie Willis

Note: The following was shamelessly stolen from Connie's Wikipedia Entry:

Constance Willis is an American science fiction writer.

She has won, among other awards, ten Hugo Awards and six Nebula Awards. Willis most recently won a Hugo Award for All Seated on the Ground (August 2008). Willis is a 1967 graduate of Colorado State College, now the University of Northern Colorado. She lives in Greeley, Colorado with her husband Courtney Willis, a professor of physics at the University of Northern Colorado. She also has one daughter, Cordelia. Connie Willis was the 2009 inductee to the Science Fiction Museum and Science Fiction Hall of Fame.

Willis is known for her accessible prose and likable characters. She has written several pieces involving time travel by history students and faculty of the future University of Oxford. These pieces include her Hugo Award-winning novels Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog and the short story "Fire Watch", found in the short story collection of the same name. She is currently working on another book set in this universe, to be published as a two book set. The first volume, Blackout was released February with the second volume, All-Clear, scheduled to be released in the fall of 2010.

WSFA Press Special Offer Information:

This year we are pleased to announce that WSFA Press (the publishing arm of the Washington Science Fiction Association, which hosts Capclave) will be publishing a special 500-copy limited and signed hardcover edition of Fire Watch, Connie's 1982 Nebula, and 1983 Hugo award winning novelette involving a time-travelling historian who goes back to The Blitz in London, to participate in the fire watch at St. Paul's Cathedral.

This volume of Fire Watch was designed by John Coulthart, a well-known British graphic artist, illustrator, author and designer. It begins with a foreword by James Patrick Kelly and is signed by Willis and Kelly.

Fire Watch will be released at this year's Capclave, and will initially only be available to members of the convention, and with only one copy per member. After the con, any remaining copies will then be made available to the general public through the WSFA Press Store. If you have not already registered for Capclave, now is a perfect time to do so, and to pre-order your copy of Fire Watch. Head over to our Registration page and sign up for the con. And while you're at it, check out the other special WSFA Press offerings available this year.

If you are already a member of Capclave, just drop our webmasters a line using the link on the Committee page. Let them know you wish to pre-order one or more of the WSFA Press offerings listed on the Registration page. They will get back to you with a link to a special Already-A-Member Preorder page and provide you a special authorization code linked to your membership. If your registration was for more than one person, let the webmasters know so that they can give you authorizations for all concerned.

The special Capclave price for Fire Watch is $20.00
